Changing the Conversation
Building Movement encourages nonprofit groups to endorse values of movement building, social change, and social justice as a way to bring greater meaning to their work and offers a way for groups to consider their capacity for movement building. Organizational capacity can go only so far in the absence of a larger sense of vision and values, and it is important to remember the role nonprofits play in the revitalization of democracy in our society. In 2001, the Building Movement Project held five regional meetings to explore the intersection between building movement towards social change and building social change organizations. The results of these discussions are included in Building Movement vs. Building Organization: Summary of Regional Discussions.

Social Change for Service Providers
In Detroit, Building Movement has engaged five service groups interested in incorporating social justice values into their work. They are using the Features of Movement Capacity Building to look at how to transform their organizations and their larger networks to include social change/justice goals and activities. A national model is being developed for how service organizations can integrate social change into their work and give voice to their constituents.
