President Releases FY06 Federal Budget:
Deep Cuts in Funding, Problematic Reform Proposals Among Highlights
The FY06 federal budget was released this past Monday to a cool reception on Capitol Hill and around the country. The budget is one of the most ideological, irresponsible, deceptive budgets to be proposed in quite some time. It contains deep cuts in domestic discretionary and entitlement programs, extention of the massive and costly 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, a deceiptive and disjointed picture of federal spending and the health of the U.S. economy, and dangerous budget process reform proposals. The budget is frighteningly bleak for nonprofit groups and the people and causes they serve, as well as the millions of Americans who receive direct government assistance of some kind.
